IOWA – Progress Iowa is going up this week with new billboards across Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District calling out Republican Joe Mitchell’s record of supporting cuts to Iowans’ health care as clinics close across the state.
The billboards on display in Cedar Rapids, Waverly, and Waterloo read:
“Joe Mitchell supported cutting health care. Now clinics are closing.”
The billboards come as Iowa continues to see clinic closures and rising health care premiums, direct results of H.R. 1, which Mitchell has voiced support for. With 20 hospitals and clinics in Iowa either closed or at risk of closure or cutting staff, Iowans are having to drive further and wait longer to seek care.
Brad, a personal trainer and former pastor in Walford, said that after being a life-long Republican he is no longer willing to support cuts to health care and policies that drive up costs.
“Joe Mitchell supported the bill that made the biggest cuts to Medicaid and made health care more expensive for families like mine,” Brad said. “He has proven that he will not stand up for us on this issue with his Statehouse record. We don’t need more of the same in Congress.”
