Missouri Secretary of State and recent U.S. Senate candidate Jason Kander will speak at Progress Iowa’s annual Holiday Party on December 20, along with Sister Simone Campbell, the Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice, the organizers of Nuns on the Bus. Kander drew national attention with his spirited and creative run against Republican Senator Roy Blunt in the Missouri Senate race, and has emerged as a leading advocate for where progressives should head in the future following the 2016 losses. Campbell has traveled the country advocating for social justice, including at several high profile events in Iowa.
“We’re excited that Jason Kander and Sister Simone Campbell will be joining us at our annual Holiday Party, where we reflect on the past year and the fight ahead,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “Kander proved during his race in Missouri that you can campaign as a bold progressive voice in a red state. We’re all very interested to see what he has to say about how we can move forward and advocate our shared values. And it will be exciting to welcome Sister Simone back to the state, and hear her passionate call for social justice at a time when it is much needed.”
“I look forward to visiting our neighbors to the north to speak to Iowa progressives about where we go from here,” Kander said. “A new generation is stepping forward in America to champion progressive values and ideas that can lift us all up as one. And we can’t for a second give up on any part of our message with Donald Trump as our next President.”
This is Progress Iowa’s 4th annual Holiday Party, where progressive activists and leaders gather each year. Past speakers have included Senator Bernie Sanders, former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer and former Texas State Senator Wendy Davis. Organizers are expecting strong attendance for the event on December 20. Tickets to the annual Progress Iowa Holiday Party are $50 each and available at http://progia.us/holiday.
