DES MOINES, IOWA – Today, Ashley Hinson held a press conference to talk about affordability, but Iowans say they need a representative who actually shows up for them in Congress.
No press conference can rewrite a record of seven votes to keep Trump’s war going while Iowa families pay the price at the pump. Hinson has voted seven times — on March 5, April 16, May 14, June 3, July 22, July 23, and September 15 — to allow this war to continue. Her July 22 vote alone sent more than $70 billion in tax dollars to fund the war in Iran.
Iowa families are footing the bill. AAA-Iowa’s average cost for gas is $4.49 with diesel at $6.23 as of Sep. 25, up over a dollar from last year. Hinson herself knows the political damage. In leaked audio to Politico in June, she called a drawn-out war “a political liability.”
Hinson has also repeatedly voted for chaotic tariffs that have driven up prices for almost everything. In the past year, Iowans have spent over $3,000 more for everyday goods and services due to rising costs.
Mazie Stilwell, executive director of Progress Iowa, released the following statement in response to Hinson’s press conference:
“If Ashley Hinson really wanted to bring down costs she wouldn’t have such a strong record of support for the war that is driving up costs. Her voting record shows Iowans that she is just another Trump puppet, supporting his war, his tariffs, and his cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, no matter the cost it has for her constituents.”
