Progress Iowa executive director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement in response to Governor Reynolds calling on sick workers to stay home to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, despite there being no requirement that employers offer paid sick leave:
“Governor Reynolds’ response to workers who are sick is absolutely heartless and does not acknowledge reality. If someone is sick on the job in our state, Reynolds is putting them in an impossible situation: either risk spreading disease by going to work, or risk their family’s financial future by staying home without a paycheck.
No one should be forced to make that decision. Governor Reynolds and the Republican controlled legislature have put the needs of working families dead last for too long, and they should act immediately to require employers to offer paid sick leave.”
