Progress Iowa will call on Iowans to rise up and not throw away their shot with a production of Reynolds Pamphlet, an adaption of Hamilton announced today and scheduled for two performances in late July, just after Hamilton’s run in Des Moines.
Reynolds Pamphlet will parody and pillory the administration of Governor Kim Reynolds as well as local and national conservative public figures, in a performance featuring local artists and musicians, as well as vignettes from policy experts and organizational leaders. Open auditions will be held next week for Reynolds Pamphlet, Tuesday May 29th and Wednesday, May 30th, at Des Moines Onstage. The full cast and crew will be announced in the coming weeks.
“Iowans recognize the disastrous effects of Governor Reynolds on our lives,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “Because of her failed leadership and the overreach of her administration and legislative Republicans, a new spark of activism has taken hold in our state and across the country. Our hope is that Reynolds Pamphlet will help fan the flame, encouraging Iowans to rise up and hold elected officials accountable.”
“Art can be a tool of the revolution, and allow us to express ourselves in lasting ways,” said Madison Ray, a Cloris Award nominated actor and musician who will co-produce the performances of Reynolds Pamphlet “Governor Reynolds inherited her position but quickly shredded her credibility by pushing extreme policies that have failed to build credibility with constituents. Hopefully our performance will mobilize people to stand up for our state in a way that only art can.”
Madison Ray is a young, soulful singer and songwriter homegrown in America’s heartland. The Des Moines “Scenester’s” eclectic style draws inspiration from all of his life’s experiences from performing in various festivals in Orange County, California to singing and dancing abroad in Tokyo, Japan to transforming himself into Tom Collins in the Des Moines Playhouse production of RENT. Broadwayworld.com has described Madison as a standout performer. His most recent album, The Revolution, Vol. 2, is available for purchase at https://www.madisonray.net/
