Actor paid to lie in campaign ad
Congressman Zach Nunn has been caught paying an actor to pretend to be a supporter in his campaign ad. In the ad, the actor claims, “I’m voting for Zach Nunn.” But in a social post this week, the actor revealed the claim is false: he cannot vote at all.
“I’m not voting, cause I literally can’t, they just paid me to say that.”
– An actor paid to lie in Nunn’s campaign ad.
This is not the first time Nunn has paid someone to pretend to support him.
Executive Director of Progress Iowa, Mazie Stilwell: “Maybe if Zach Nunn had shown up for Iowans and voted against tariffs, the war in Iran and cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, they’d show up for him. While we pay for rising costs, he’s paying millions on dishonest campaign ads to trick Iowans into voting for him.”
A pattern of paid actors, false support and lying:
- August 2025: Nunn’s ad “Tax Relief for Iowa Families” featured Sarah Curry presented as an “Iowa mom and constituent,” but she is actually a conservative political operative and research director at the Iowans for Tax Relief Foundation, an organization whose PAC has given Nunn’s campaigns at least $14,000 in exchange for certain tax policy support. She doesn’t even live in Nunn’s district.
- May 2026: A Reynolds-connected lobbyist was caught offering $100 cash payments plus $25 referral bonuses to anyone willing to attend Nunn’s Des Moines rally with Vice President JD Vance.
- July 2026: When asked in person about rural hospital closures from the Medicaid cuts Nunn voted for, Nunn claimed “I’m with a constituent” to dodge the question — then slapped the phone out of the person’s hand. The “constituent” was actually a reporter at NOTUS.
