An Iowa celebrity is bringing back an infamous breakup tactic in an ad encouraging early voting. Progress Iowa released the ad today, featuring actor and Cedar Rapids native Ron Livingston, to promote the website IowaVotesEarly.com, where any Iowan can find an early voting location.
In the ad, Livingston is joined by his wife and fellow actor Rosmarie DeWitt, and he references the controversial Post-it note breakup his character Jack Berger left for Carrie Bradshaw in the TV show Sex and the City. Ultimately he reveals that he’s using the Post-it to remind voters across the state to cast their ballot early this year.
“Whether you write it on a Post-it note, put it on your calendar, or set a reminder on your phone, everyone needs to make a plan to vote this year,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “We appreciate Ron and Rosemarie using their voice to encourage early voting, because it is so important for everyone to know when and where they can cast their ballots. Unfortunately with all of the changes made to early voting in recent years, that information can be harder to find, and we hope our website makes it more accessible.”
In addition to Sex and the City, Livingston is best known for his roles as Peter Gibbons in Office Space (1999) and Captain Lewis Nixon III in the miniseries Band of Brothers (2001). DeWitt, described as an ‘honorary Iowan’ in the ad, has starred in a number of roles, including the film Rachel Getting Married (2008) , and shows like The Boys (2024). The ad was created in partnership with The Hometown Project, which connects well known artists with initiatives in their hometowns.
IowaVotesEarly.com provides Iowans who want to vote early an easy to use site where they can find the closest voting location. Iowans can vote in person at their county auditor’s office and at satellite voting locations, as well as by mail with an absentee ballot. Information is provided in both English and Spanish, and the site is updated regularly with the latest information.
Voters are encouraged to visit IowaVotesEarly.com to look for their early vote locations, and other organizations and news outlets are encouraged to link to the website to help spread the information as well.
