Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement in response to a new report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics that the country added 372,000 jobs in June and the unemployment rate held steady at 3.6%:
“Iowans work hard for their families, but with rising gas prices and soaring inflation because of corporate price gouging, many are struggling to make ends meet.
“Luckily, President Biden is delivering for working families. The Biden Administration once again helped create thousands of jobs last month and kept unemployment at a near-historic low.
“Meanwhile, Iowa’s economy is failing. Almost ten percent of our state’s population is below the poverty line and there are nearly twice as many open jobs as there are unemployed Iowans. This is the direct impact of Republicans like Governor Reynolds rigging the rules for wealthy corporations and billionaires with massive tax cuts.
“We deserve lawmakers who stand with working families. Instead of blocking wage increases and siding with corporations, it’s time the Governor takes real action to address the Reynolds Workforce Crisis.”
