Reynolds should be laser focused on recovery, not Pence’s political visit
Des Moines, Iowa — Progress Iowa executive director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement calling on Gov. Kim Reynolds to demand a Presidential Disaster Declaration and as much federal assistance as possible following Monday’s derecho storm:
“Instead of putting on a show for Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to Iowa today, Gov. Reynolds should use her position to demand assistance for Iowans.”
“Thousands of Iowans have been without power, medical supplies, and basic resources for days and are unsure of what comes next as they’ve seen no on-site assistance from the federal government. Leaving people to wonder if they will receive any help is inexcusable. Power lines are down, trees are blocking the streets, and regular Iowans are being left to clean up the mess.”
“A Presidential Disaster Declaration and as much federal assistance as possible should have been demanded by Gov. Kim Reynolds days ago. Iowans should not have to suffer and be left to wonder when Reynolds will finally decide to do her job.”
