New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will headline Progress Iowa’s fifth annual Holiday Party on December 19th. Mayor de Blasio will focus his remarks on the future of the progressive movement and the effort to resist the conservative agenda being enacted across the country. In addition, Senate Democratic Leader Janet Petersen and House Democratic Leader Mark Smith will speak at the event.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mayor de Blasio back to Iowa,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “His progressive leadership and passion for common sense solutions provides a model for the entire country, and we look forward to hearing his thoughts on the future of our movement to ensure working families get a fair shot at success.”
“I’m excited to join fellow progressives in Iowa for great event,” said Mayor de Blasio. “Iowans are speaking out and showing up to fight back against what conservatives are doing to their state and our country. Standing up for quality public education, access to health care, and to make sure working families get a fair shot matters in Iowa and New York, and I can’t wait to discuss those ideas as well as how we can work together when I visit in December.”
This is Progress Iowa’s 5th annual Holiday Party, where progressive activists and leaders gather each year. Past speakers have included Senator Bernie Sanders, former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, Sister Simone Campbell of Nuns on the Bus, former Texas State Senator Wendy Davis, and former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer. Organizers are expecting strong attendance for the event on Tuesday, December 19th. Tickets to the Progress Iowa Holiday Party are $50 each and available at http://progia.us/holiday2017.
