Des Moines — Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement about the health care compromise offered and passed in the final hours of the 2013 legislative session:
“The health care compromise passed by the legislature will finally put to rest the concerns of Iowans living in or on the edge of poverty who need health care security. They are the ultimate winners after months of political back and forth, and too many delays by Governor Branstad.”
“The compromise, which offers expanded coverage under Obamacare, was only realized after thousands of Iowans and dozens of citizen organizations expressed their support. Their voices moved the Governor from not having a plan, to offering an unworkable half-measure, to finally accepting federal dollars for expanded coverage. Every Iowan who made a phone call, sent an email, wrote a letter, or spoke out in some way deserves a thank you today.”
