State Representative Steve Lukan of New Vienna has just announced his retirement from the Iowa House of Representatives and that he will not be running for re-election in a Iowa House district that is considered a strong pick-up opportunity for House Democrats:
Rep. Steve Lukan, R-New Vienna and one of four assistant majority leaders, said he will not run again. His term expires at the end of this year.
“It was a tough decision to make but it will be my 10th year and I just think it’s time for new challenges,” Lukan, 33, said today.
Lukan, who was married last year, said his future plans are undecided. He was first elected in 2002.
Lukan’s district, starting next year, will have a larger majority of Democrats due to redistricting. Democrats have not yet announced a candidate for this year’s election for the new House District 57.
