‘Lockdown’ released to call attention to gun violence in Iowa

Progress Iowa today released a new video highlighting the need to enact common sense gun laws in Iowa. The advertisement, entitled Lockdown, shows a text message conversation between a parent and student during an active shooter threat, and closes by calling people to action by texting SAFEIOWA to 30644. Progress Iowa consulted Iowa students while developing the ad, as well as pulling from real-life examples from school shootings.

REPORT: The Cautionary Tale of Gun Violence in Iowa

A report released today by the Center for American Progress and Progress Iowa offers new insights into the efforts to prevent gun violence in Iowa, and how those efforts are falling short. Despite strong state gun laws and among the lowest gun death rates in the nation, Iowa has begun to slide in its gun violence prevention work, its leaders systematically weakening the state’s gun laws and threatening to undo much of the progress previously made on the issue.

Controversial Sinclair ‘forced read’ promotion ran 68 times in Iowa last week

A controversial promotional piece scripted by The Sinclair Broadcast Group aired 68 times in Iowa on stations owned by the corporation between March 23rd and March 31st, according to a report released by Progress Iowa.

March for Our Lives – Iowa Locations

Led by students, Iowans of all backgrounds will march together on Saturday at the state capitol and at locations across the state for an end to the epidemic of gun violence in our country. The March for Our Lives in Des Moines is being coordinated by Progress Iowa, Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, and a planning committee of student and community leaders. The Des Moines march is being held in solidarity with marches taking place across the state of Iowa, and at more than 800 locations worldwide.
